NBC’s Last Comic Standing Returns to Cheer Up Your TV

by Todd Epp

The May Sweeps are almost over.

Then, the Networks basically give up and present the 21st Century version of Soccer Made In Germany.

But thank God NBC doesn’t.

They’re bringing back the usually entertaining Last Comic Standing.

Frankly, I don’t give a whit about their personal lives and “back stories.” But I do like seeing fresh comedians (and even some of the flops.)

And since this is America, we can even make comedy a competition. That’s what makes us strong as compared to, say, the Canadians.

I’m just sayin’, Winnipeg.

My Gal Jessica at NBC has more:

Just wanted to give you a heads up that Last Comic Standing is coming back for its 6th season starting May 22nd. Check out a promo clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8wZ51OuF84&NR=1 and a couple auditions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0wfW31GoK8 and here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeZ6zM-vvMw.

Guest judges for this season include Angela Kinsey and Oscar Nuñez from The Office, George Wendt and John Ratzenberger from Cheers, and Lonny Ross and Keith Powell from 30 Rock. See more at the official Last Comic Standing site: http://www.nbc.com/Last_Comic_Standing/

Feel free to share with your readers and catch the new season of Last Comic Standing on NBC starting on May 22 at 9:30pm/8:30c.

Libby’s Back from the Dead on The Bill Engvall Show

by Todd Epp
Remember that blonde pyschologist gal from ABC’s Lost that Michael so shockingly shot in one of the season finales?

Well, she’s back from the “dead” and doing comedy.

My Gal Heather has more on the resurrection of Cynthia Watros on The Bill Engvall Show.

This summer, TBS’s popular and acclaimed original sitcom THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW is going to welcome a special guest star for a three-episode arc: Cynthia Watros, who endeared herself to television viewers as the doomed Libby on THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW stars Blue Collar Comedy Tour headliner Bill Engvall as Bill Pearson, a family counselor whose hilariously unconventional family could use a good dose of counseling itself.

Nancy Travis co-stars as his wife, Susan, while Tim Meadows plays his best friend, Paul. Cynthia is set to play Susan’s best friend, AJ, who comes to town for an extended visit after going through a nasty divorce. It’s not long after she arrives that her flighty, spontaneous personality, which has never set well with Bill, starts to make him worry that he and Susan might be in a rut. And it’s going to take a lot of creativity – even a salsa dancing lesson – to get them out.

In addition to her work on THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW, Cynthia recently finished shooting the sci-fi drama Mars and the baseball comedy Calvin Marshall, both set for release later this year. In 2006, she joined the rest of the cast of Lost in taking home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble. Her other television credits include The Drew Carey Show and Titus. Cynthia made her mark on daytime television from 1994 to 1998, when she played the dual role of Annie Dutton Banks on The Guiding Light, a role that earned her a Daytime Emmy.

Moms Go Mom to Mom with Mom Hillary

by Todd Epp

Moms went mom to mom with mom Hillary Clinton yesterday in North Carolina.

This is actually something useful. I’m an Obama supporter and hope that momlogic.com does something similar with him.

More from My Gal Jennifer:

MOMLOGIC.COM HOSTS TOWN HALL EVENT WITH PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON TODAY IN NORTH CAROLINA

Log On to MomLogic.com to Watch Our Exclusive Town Hall Event

(Los Angeles – Saturday, May 3, 2008) – Momlogic.com hosted a town hall event in Cary, North Carolina today where area Moms went mom-to-mom with the presidential hopeful to delve into what concerns moms and their families most during this all-important election.

A panel of momlogic.com experts hosted the event, including family therapist Shannon Fox, Rabbi Sherre Z. Hirsch, lifestyle expert Mary Alice Haney and news anchor and author, Rene Syler.

Senator Clinton answered a variety of questions submitted online by Momlogic.com moms and audience members also asked Senator Clinton questions about issues affecting them and their families in this all-important election year.

When asked to give advice to women who want a career and family, Senator Clinton responded, “You just have to make decisions. One of them I made was to spend as much time as I could with my daughter. We didn’t have much of a social life.

Clinton says the family found creative ways to spend time together. “One time Chelsea said she heard about coconuts and had never seen one, so we went to the store and bought a coconut we took it home. And Bill and I, you know, between us we’ve had 50 years of education, could not get the coconut open. I mean we were throwing it on the driveway, beating it with a hammer, it was so embarrassing.â€?

About raising strong children, Senator Clinton said, “What’s really important and what you have to work on is to be present with your children. It so easy to be looking at your Blackberry, to be on your cell phone… Somehow you have to create the space and time where your children really know they have your undivided attention.

On her experience parenting a teenager, Clinton mused, “You really cannot extrapolate from my experience, because Chelsea was a teenager in the white house which meant that the secret service went on her dates. A lot of her girlfriends’ mothers loved it when they double dated because, you know, there was the guy with the gun in the front seat.â€?

On the subject of rising gas prices, Senator Clinton stated, “I want to provide immediate relief as well as a long term plan on how we’re going to end our addition to foreign oil … We have got to have a sensible energy policy. We haven’t had it and we’ve paid a big price for it.

On Moms not always seeing eye-to-eye with their daughters, Senator Clinton recalls, “My idea of what was proper dressing when my daughter was a teenager was just totally absurd in her mind. There’s a picture - it was Bill’s second inauguration, and we were leaving the White House to drive to the Capitol for him to be sworn in. The plan was that we were going to drive a little bit and the secret service had an area that the secret service said it was ok for us to get out of the car and walk a little bit. So Chelsea came down–she was dressed and had a coat on … she opened it … the skirt was so short. And I’m sitting there looking at this short skirt, and there’s no time to change, and I thought ok you just have to take a deep breath. Here we go. There are so many things that are worth engaging your kids on and so many things that are not important, and trying to figure out how to draw the line.â€?

MSNBC: Hillary "Chief White Woman" in USA

by Todd Epp

Why are people, particularly those in the media, so stupid about race?

The Huffington Post reports that a Republican flack Kellyanne Conway on MSNBC said the following today:

“The person who has criticized them is Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton has been criticizing Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright. and I think that’s the real issue, I think that’s why Barack Obama had to push back. She is the chief white woman in this country, calling into question Jeremiah Wright’s bonafides and she has made that issue on the campaign trail. Republicans aren’t saying much about it at all, including John McCain. He had one thing to say about it early on.”

Just In Time for Mothers Day, 10 Things You Don’t Know About Dads

by Todd Epp

Moms get all the attention.  We dads are just kind of there, at least us modern, sensitive dads.

But Mom Logic wants to help with everyone’s favorite reality dad, The Bachelor’s Ryan Sutter.

My Gal Jennifer has more below:

Ryan Sutter: 10 Things You Don’t Know About Dads
Exclusive Family Photos

(Los Angeles – April 7, 2008) – Reality TV’s Bachelor-turned-Dad, Ryan Sutter, reveals some information Moms may be surprised to know. Ryan is married to Bachelorette Trista, and they have a 7-month-old son, Max.

1. Even when you’re about to breastfeed, we get turned on because we’re guys and we just see boobs.

2. When we’re left in charge, we break all the rules. (Sorry, Trista, I know you said it was too cold for Max and me to go out the other day, but we bundled up and went anyway.)

3. Sometimes we “don’t realize” they have poopy diapers and let you discover it.

4. Dads are sensitive too, and sometimes we feel fat.

5. Honestly, we do steal glances at cute 25-year-olds who walk by. That’s why we never leave home without our sunglasses!

For the rest of Ryan’s Top 10 Things to Know About Dads and an exclusive photo gallery of Ryan and baby Max, click on the link below.

Meredith Vieira Sings Karaoke for Charity

by Todd Epp

Meredith Viera.

Everything Katie Couric is not. Attractive. Smart. Tough. Likeable. Credible. Accomplished.

Perhaps CBS could get her to anchor the nightly news when Couric gets pushed out in January.

But I digress.

My Gal Jennifer has some news about Meredith.

Meredith Vieira Sings Karaoke for the Children
Today show co-host goes a little bit country to help end violence against kids.

(Los Angeles – April 7, 2008) – The Today show co-host woke up early on her day off to show her support for Love Our Children USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening families and breaking the cycle of violence against children.
