Libby’s Back from the Dead on The Bill Engvall Show

Sunday, May 18th, 2008
Remember that blonde pyschologist gal from ABC’s Lost that Michael so shockingly shot in one of the season finales?

Well, she’s back from the “dead” and doing comedy.

My Gal Heather has more on the resurrection of Cynthia Watros on The Bill Engvall Show.

This summer, TBS’s popular and acclaimed original sitcom THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW is going to welcome a special guest star for a three-episode arc: Cynthia Watros, who endeared herself to television viewers as the doomed Libby on THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW stars Blue Collar Comedy Tour headliner Bill Engvall as Bill Pearson, a family counselor whose hilariously unconventional family could use a good dose of counseling itself.

Nancy Travis co-stars as his wife, Susan, while Tim Meadows plays his best friend, Paul. Cynthia is set to play Susan’s best friend, AJ, who comes to town for an extended visit after going through a nasty divorce. It’s not long after she arrives that her flighty, spontaneous personality, which has never set well with Bill, starts to make him worry that he and Susan might be in a rut. And it’s going to take a lot of creativity – even a salsa dancing lesson – to get them out.

In addition to her work on THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW, Cynthia recently finished shooting the sci-fi drama Mars and the baseball comedy Calvin Marshall, both set for release later this year. In 2006, she joined the rest of the cast of Lost in taking home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Ensemble. Her other television credits include The Drew Carey Show and Titus. Cynthia made her mark on daytime television from 1994 to 1998, when she played the dual role of Annie Dutton Banks on The Guiding Light, a role that earned her a Daytime Emmy.

Lost’s Baby Bait and Switch

Friday, March 14th, 2008

27.jpgI am a big fan of ABC’s Lost.

I like the twists and turns.  I like the characters.  I even like the skiping forward and back in time.

But what I don’t like is being played.

And that’s exactly how I feel about Thursday’s episode, “Ji Yeon.”*

Lostie Sun is pregant.  And women who become pregnant on The Island don’t live very long.

As we find out, Sun apparently makes it off as one of the Oceanic 6.  So does her husband Jin.  Or at least one would reasonably things, given how the flashbacks were edited.

24.jpgJin is feverishly trying to buy a panda at a toy store for a newborn.  He takes a panicked phone call.  He tries to hail a taxi.  Sun is about to deliver her baby.  Sun calls out for Jin.

Unfortunately, the two events are not happening in the same time.  Jin is looking for a toy panda for the daughter of the CEO of China’s largest auto manufacturer who’s just given birth–two months after Jin and Sun were married, before Oceanic 815.

Sun is giving birth post-Oceanic 815.  And Jin is literally dead and buried.**

We were played with too cute editing.  It was dishonest.

It’s one thing to be surprised; it’s another to be misled.

To the producers of Lost, please don’t treat me like an idiot.  We, your loyal fans deserve better.

*Sun’s baby’s name.

**It’s not clear if Jin made if off The Island alive or not.

Lost about Lost: Why Do Some People Who Get Shot or Injured Die and Others Don’t?

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

ABC’s Lost is appointment TV for me (or at least my DVR).

It is compelling–and confounding.

Like, why is is that John Locke can now walk when once he couldn’t, can get shot and not die (same with the new Charlotte character), but Naomi gets stabbed in the back and dies.

Does the island have special powers or not? Or is it the characters who do?

Anyway, I don’ understand why some character heal up real good and other die while on the same island and in the same vicinity of each other.

Just something that makes me want to go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
