David Tennant Confirms He is Leaving Doctor Who
Earlier today, a story at The Guardian reported that David Tennant would be leaving Doctor Who after he films four upcoming specials. There has been a lot of speculation about him leaving so I just chalked it up to another rumor. But as it turns out, The Guardian was right.
At tonight’s National Television Awards in London, Tennant, in his acceptance speech for the Outstanding Drama Performance award, confirmed that he will in fact be departing the series.
"When Doctor Who returns in 2010 it won’t be with me. The 2009 shows will be my last playing the doctor. If I don’t take a deep breath and move on now, I never will."
Tennant thanked fans for their enthusiasm for the show and spoke fondly of his experience on Doctor Who. He then asked co-star Catherine Tate to accept the award on his behalf.
