HBO Gets Rights to Broadcast Inauguration Festivities

barackobama The Presidential Inaugural Committee announced today that HBO has won exclusive rights to televise the inauguration kick-off ceremony, which will be attended by President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden.  The ceremony will take place at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, January 18. Unlike 1993, when HBO paid $1.5 million to the Presidential Inaugural Committee to exclusively televise Bill Clinton’s inauguration kick-off, HBO will make the event free to all cable and satellite subscribers.

The inauguration itself, which takes place on Capitol Hill at noon on January 20, will be covered by all the broadcast and cable news channels.

The lineup for the kick-off ceremony has not yet been announced, but it is sure to include many big name Hollywood and musical personalities.
