Stargate Universe Gets Greenlight from Sci Fi
Stargate Atlantis may be getting the boot, but Sci Fi has just announced plans for a third incarnation of the hit franchise.
Stargate: Universe will premiere early next year as a two hour movie then will move into a regular timeslot in the summer. Universe will follow a team of explorers who find an ancient unmanned ship called the Destiny. Since they cannot return to Earth, the crew must fend for themselves aboard the ship.
Sci Fi hopes Universe will help fill the void left by Battlestar Galactica when it ends its run in 2009. Sci Fi chief Dave Howe says, "There’s an opportunity to keep the space opera as part of our programming strategy."
Though the series will feature an all new cast of characters, guest appearances by SG-1 and Atlantis cast members could be very possible.
